Where to Get Grab-and-Go Food and Groceries for Your Flat
The only hard part about getting food within walking distance of The Flats is choosing what delicious fare to dig into. Here are some of our favorites for quick and tasty nourishment or stocking your flat's kitchen with provisions. They’re faves not only for the top quality, scrumptious food but because they’re all family-owned local legacies.
Folgarelli’s Market and Wine Shop
It’s like stepping into an Old World Italian Market with shelves of global ingredients, a premier wine selection, and a forty-foot delicatessen case full of cured meats, olives, cheeses, and antipasti, all of which are a foodie’s dream. You can fill your basket with staples and worldly delicacies or choose a hearty lunch from Folgarelli’s Famous Sandwiches. While it’s a charcuterie and meat lover’s heaven-on-earth, The Rose and The Garden are two of the best veggie sandwiches in town.

Mary’s Kitchen Port
Ask any local what to order at Mary’s, and they’ll tell you the Gobbler. What makes this turkey sandwich so special is the house-made salted ciabatta, landing it at the top of the list for popular picnic sandwiches in Traverse City. Alongside the Gobbler in the cooler cases, you’ll find a variety of ready-to-go sandwiches, wraps, salads, snack cheeses, and beverages. Their shop is stocked with kitchen and pantry items, and the cookies are not to be missed. Everything is ready to toss into your tote or cooler for a day at the beach.

Burrit’s Fresh Market
A Traverse City landmark, Burritt’s started as a two-man butcher shop and has expanded into a consummate specialty market (complete with a full case of house-made cheese spreads), local produce, and the largest wine selection in Northern Michigan. They still pride themselves on their selection of “hormone-, steroid- and antibiotic-free beef, and the largest fresh fish selection in the north.” This is the market to hit if you want to use your kitchen at The Flats and pick up everything you’re craving, from happy hour to entrees and dessert.
